Deciphering the "Reverse Turing Test"

Before we talk about the "Reverse Turing Test" let us first quickly dive into understanding the famous Turing Test itself.

With the never-ending news in the world of Large Language Models (LLMs) ranging from ChatGPT, the Llama series, Mixtral and Claude series, you by now would have heard about the LLM models reportedly passing the Turing Test, at least once.

What is Turing Test ?

The Test was initially proposed by Alan Turing in his seminal paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence" and hence the name Turing Test.

The test was inspired by the single important question:

The Test involves 3 participants:

• A "HUMAN INTERROGATOR" that is interacting with a:

  • "HUMAN", and an

  • "AI MACHINE" disguising itself as a HUMAN.

If "AI MACHINE" is able to demonstrate processing a HUMAN LEVEL INTELLIGENCE to the "HUMAN INTERROGATOR", then it is said to have passed the TURING TEST.

Okay, with Turing Test out of the way let's talk about the burning question: The Reverse Turing Test.

What is Reverse Turing Test ?

It is essentially everything the Turing Test stands for, with HUMANS and the AI MACHINES reversed.

So, now the Test has 3 participants:

• An "AI MACHINE INTERROGATOR" that is interacting with an:

  • "AI MACHINE", and a

  • "HUMAN" disguising itself as an AI MACHINE.

If "HUMAN" is able to demonstrate processing a AI MACHINE LEVEL INTELLIGENCE to the "AI MACHINE INTERROGATOR", then it is said to have passed the REVERSE TURING TEST.

By now you must be asking yourself that:

• What does having AI Machine level intelligence even mean ?

• What does behaving like an AI machine even mean ?

What would be the QUESTIONS and possible ANSWERS a human pretending to be an AI machine look like. For Instance saying statements like:

• I wish I could enjoy the Human Food

• How is it like being Loved ?

• How is it like to Dream ?

I know this all sounds bizarre and far-fetched but it may not be too far into the future.

Believe me I'm also with you on the same boat scratching my head to define the soon to be non-alien terms for the Humanity.

The other thought you may have is:

Fingers crossed, and hopefully we never have to go through one, but let me open it up for a Dystopian Future where Humans need to prove that they are an AI machines which maybe for, lets say:

• Signing up onto a new age AI machine internet, or

• To get recruited for a AI machine only job, or

• Proving that the content was actually generated by an AI machine,

and the list is endless.

At this point I'm leaving you with more questions than from where we actually started: The Reverse Turing Test.

Hopefully it gets you into the thinking mode of where the humanity is headed for now.
